Prayer Box
Speak, she hears you.
OOC note: As of April 2020, threads with the gods will be capped at three NPC replies! Please keep this in mind when writing god prayers to make sure you get everything you need out of the thread. It’s also possible to handwave prayers by titling your comment HANDWAVED PRAYER. Handwaved prayers lack our usual flourish, but you can expect a faster response!
As of February 2024, god prayers will be handwaved only. Please only submit a prayer if you have a question for either god which needs answering in order to progress your character's arc within Ryslig. If this is something you need to tier up within the god boon system, or just to set up a player plot in general, please don't hesitate to submit a prayer about it! You may shorten it down to an OOC summary of what your character is asking. This will allow any of our helper mods to reply much faster, without having to dig into the specifics of either god's personality/writing quirks. Should this limitation be lifted again in the future, this note will be removed.

The Fog's whispers drift through the air in an amused chuckle.]
So I saw. A very amusing trick indeed. Seeing my children work so hard to please me was quite a delight. Despite their words, it is only natural to have your own way of doing things, no?
[A tendril of fog forms from the swirling wall, reaching out to caress AM's cheek, cold but tender. A sincere gestures but condescending, especially as the tendril drifts upwards and pats AM on the head.]
You already kill beautifully for mere pleasure, and I do so adore it. Embracing your true nature is all I ever ask. [The tendril drifts away.]
But like a child, you come to me with jealousy in your heart, eager to best my other beloveds. Not to please me, but to earn yourself a treat. Silly little pet, why not tell me what you truly desire?

But even so, even if he feels even slightly grateful to her, it's not fair that he should be treated indeed like a child, barely glanced upon while those less worthy are given more power.
He grimaces with the touch on his head, folding in his remaining wing to keep it out of the wall of fog. Obviously she knows he dislikes it - that's why she does it. The two are very similar in that regard, aren't they?]
So you can see. Yes, I suppose I am bitterly envious that they should earn your favor over me.
[He doesn't address the "treat" part. Not yet. Even if he knows it's true.]
But if it's so obvious, then you should know what I want. [His eyes sharpen as he tries to focus on wherever he perceives her to be. But she's all around him, so it's silly, isn't it?]
I want the power you've bestowed upon them. [No. He wants more than that. He wants her power and more. But he has to take careful steps.]

[Her amusement remains, perhaps even furthered by his distaste of the sitaution. The tendril of fog avoids anymore contact, but lingers closely. He is not yet free of her condescending touch.]
Perhaps not, for one as ambitious as you.
[She sounds entirely unsurprised, but there is an edge of pleasure in the way she spaces out her words. The air around AM stirs, and the wall of fog surrounding him shifts constantly.]
So what is it you will do to earn this? You are creative, pet. I am sure it will be no challenge to you to prove yourself worthy.

Has she not given enough? That's a ridiculous question that AM nearly answers vocally. It's never enough. He doesn't deserve to be her pet. But he holds his tongue instead, clearly bristling. Either way, she answers it right after.
From each according to his ability... It seems AM won't be rewarded just for doing what he does so easily. Of course not.]
No, I suppose it shouldn't be a challenge. But you seem to only want to reward that which would challenge me.
[And that's the problem. He's not going to put himself at risk unless there is a significant payoff. He looks to the fog, trying to discern a source.]
Is the challenge truly worth it, though?
[Well, that's the whole reason he came to her in the first place, right?]

And then, there's a whisper in AM's ear.]
You would not be here if it was not, correct, pet?
[Along with the Fog's signature whispers, AM will hear something else. A chorus of screams, lives upon lives begging for mercy. Hundreds, thousands of tortured souls screaming for release. . .but not by the Fog's hands. No, from AM. They call out with praise, hoping they'll be spared from his frightening power. Their horrified, desperate cries ring like a pleasant lullaby to the demon's ear, and he'll feel a fleeting sensation of pure pleasure.
And then, the fog disperses, just like that. The Fog God's laughter drifts away, along with despairing screams of all of AM's fantastical victims.]
